My Children Know the Importance of Dressing to be Safe During Winter

Thanks for the article from Laura Ryan

During the winter, I am very strict about my children's dress code. I make them dress in layers, and I even purchase them two pairs of non skid boots each. We do not have a car, so my children and I walk a lot of places together. When nighttime approaches, i dress them in bright colored scarves and hats, so that drivers can see us when we are crossing the street.

We always walk on the sidewalks unless there is ice or snow buildup on them. In this case, we walk in the street but close to the curb. I make sure I keep them close and in front of me, so that I can see them at all time. I've even taught my babies how they should never cross the street, unless they can see clearly that the vehicle or vehicles have come to a complete stop. My children are so winter safety conscious now, that they often remind me when I'm not. My children are smart and they really pay attention to my concerns for them.

My oldest son takes all the reflective gear on their bikes and puts it on the back of all the children winter hats. How smart is that? We do a lot of walking, but I always remember to set the home security alarm( CLICK HERE ). Our things are too valuable to put at risk.
